2006-03-01 - A Penetrating Look Back on February
This month was a crazy month. Some people may be able to deduce that I did not totally stick to my no-more-$50/100NL policy (hint: Feb 10: Twenty-Seven Minutes of Doom). Overall I probably lost a lot there but who knews...I mean I can't just check on pokertracker so I guess we'll never know....plus I usually do well at other limits so why shouldn't I keep taking shots to see if I can hang in that game? Anyways, it's really a miracle I finished the month up 81k. From Feb 1-Feb 9 I was playing some great poker and on way to a 300k month earn. Feb 10 I basically gave up all hope at a great month and lost all motivation and energy. There are a bunch of days where I played like 200 hands at 5/10 NL and won like almost nothing and called it a day. So much for my 150k hand goal...I probably played less than people who work 40 hours a week at a full time job and have a family and play poker on the side for fun. I've been playing some more random games too like limit Omaha 8/b, Razz, NL sit n gos, limit hold'em. It's nice to know that everyone really really sucks at poker. I can beat all those games (not the HIGHEST stakes played but fairly high (except razz I play highest)). All you need is basic poker knowledge and all the rest of the games are the same. I used to be in awe of the "big game" players who are amazing at every form of poker. At the levels I play, you don't really need to play any hands to be able to beat the guys. I think people that play no limit as their main game are the smartest of all poker players because they can go allin. There was a lot of drama at 2+2 this month: first with JJProdigy next with ZeeJustin. I feel pretty bad for both of them. Everyone at 2+2 is like "OMG you earned all your $$$$ by cheating you deserve to go to jail I'm writing a letter to members of congress to tell them what you did!!! In reality these are both very very great (tournament) players that now have their reps ruined for doing something slightly wrong. I don't think he made the extra accounts for the sole purpose of collusion or anything. I think it was more like he just wanted extra playing in tournaments which doesn't seem that bad. It'd be pretty easy to rationalize: if party is too dumb to fix this glitch, they obviously don't care. I can see myself falling into the same trap if I was in their shoes. Then when a lot of other big name friends do it too, he'll just assume it's okay to do until they fix their glitch, but party didn't have a right to take all their money. Yes it's in their T&C, but that's still b.s. b/c someone (maybe KaneKungFu) gave the example: what if JJProdigy independently deposited $5 million; would it still be okay for party to seize all that too?. I saw the latest Woody Allen movie, Match Point sometime in February. Now I see a decent amount of movies, and I have to say that this was definitely the best of 2005. I also think a lot of people would enjoy this and not just film snobs. It has Scarlett Johansson who is the hottest actress of alltime probably. Also it reminded me of Closer because of its excellent dialogue, but then towards the end it gets fun!!! I'm not a good movie reviewer sorry, but this one is great. If you're looking for some more good movies to watch, here's a list of Roger Ebert's Top 10s.
